El distrito de Arganzuela supone una prolongación natural hacia el sur de la histórica villa de Madrid y, aunque hoy en día es uno de las zonas con más vida de la capital, el distrito como tal data de hace muy poco tiempo, los años 70 en concreto. Su nacimiento estuvo ligado a las industrias, míticas industrias como la Fábrica de Osram y la Fábica de Gas.

Este espacio periférico contaba ya con algunas industrias tradicionales, como tejares y yeserías, que se instalaban fuera del núcleo urbano para evitar molestias a la población.
